21 Confessions in honor of the New Year

Between you and Me (Shh!)

By Debra Flanagan, Macaroni Kid Chicago Northside January 28, 2021

Hi, your local publisher here.

In the spirit of honesty and openness, I thought I might introduce myself by confessing some of the bad behaviors and guilty pleasures I picked up during 2020 and the pandemic.  Have you experienced any of these?  Join me in shedding the shame!

1. I have let my 11 yr. old son go an entire week without getting out of his pajamas

2. Despite my son's pleas for a haircut, I have made him suffer just so I can watch it curl at the bottom

3. I have unfriended family on Facebook leading up to, and following, the election

4. I jumped ahead of my husband in watching the current season of "This is Us"

5. I still watch Grey's Anatomy

6. There is a frozen cheesecake hidden in the freezer that is just for me

7. Having just typed the above, reminded me, gave me a craving, and I am now eating a forkful

8. We let our kids watch Dave Chappelle stand-up (I mean he is a comedic genius)

9. I don't miss the full-time job I was laid off from

10. I am single-handedly melting the ice-caps with how often I run the dishwasher

11. I went on a complete online spending spree last spring (who didn't?)

12. We haven't put our Christmas decorations away yet

13. I hot-glued my broken glasses together multiple times for over a month before getting new ones (I really liked those frames)

14. I've hid behind my "mask" in public to avoid talking to someone

15. I secretly watch Keeping Up with the Kardashian's when no one is home

16. I spent three months (and probably 40+ hours) on a 1,000 piece puzzle

17. I have served my family questionable food in terms of expiration dates (everyone is still alive)

18. I have gone to the store in my pajamas and a very long winter coat

19. The fact that I'm watching Glee with my 13 yr. old daughter (and we both agree Mr. Shue was creepy)

20. The fact that I'm watching Glee at all

21. I thought Wonder Woman 1984 was better than the first WW (we'll just call that the pandemic effect)
