Lakeview Supper Series

by One Off Hospitality at Big Star Wrigleyville

We have participated in the Lakeview Supper Series three times now and we have yet to be disappointed by anything. The Supper Series is a three week series of prepared family meals from nine-time James Beard Award Winning team at One Off Hospitality.

The weekly meal subscription takes care of dinner on Saturday nights with a pre-prepared four-course meal made for you and yours.  Meals require re-heating before enjoying.  Subscription packages are available for 4 or 2 guests and are available for curbside pick up between 4pm and 6pm on Saturdays, at Big Star Wrigleyville (3640 N. Clark Street)

Since we haven't been able to go out on date nights very easily under current conditions, we use this opportunity to have a date night at home.  We order the 2 person package, and while I feed the kids a simple dinner, my husband walks over to pick up our feast.  Then we throw a movie on in another room and quite frankly, tell our kids to leave us alone for awhile - nicely.  They know the drill.  Then we dim the lights, light some candles, put on some music, open a bottle of wine, and together plate our dishes, course by course.  My husband is much better at presentation than me.

I've come to enjoy this even more than going out.

This past week's meals were off the Dove's Luncheonette menu.  The first course was a Back to Life Cocktails with crackers which was a slightly spicy, tangy, ceviche of shrimp and squid served with saltines.  The seafood was incredibly fresh.

The second course was a Squash Salad Delicata with butternut squash, kale, goat cheese, pipian rojo vinaigrette, pickled red onions, and pepitas.  The combination of butternut squash and goat cheese was one of those things I could eat as a dessert.

The main entree was Chicken Fried Chicken with chorizo gravy, carmelized onions, and sweet peas.  The chorizo gave it a little zing.  We received four chicken portions, which was more than enough.  In fact, we had two of them the next day for lunch.

Dessert was Mexican Hot Chocolate Brownies which we decided to warm in the oven and serve with a little of our own coffee ice cream which I think was an excellent decision.

These subscriptions run at about $185 for all three weeks of food for two.  The next two weeks will contain menus from Avec and The Publican.  A March Supper Series hasn't been announced yet, but I'd get on their mailing list if I were you.
