Disney's Frozen - The Musical

Now Playing at The Cadillac Palace through January 22, 2022

Despite the fact that I have seen the Disney movie Frozen with my kids, no less than twenty times, I was looking forward to seeing it on stage with my kids two years ago.  We all know why that didn’t happen, but now two years later I wondered if my son, now 12, would enjoy it.

You never know with stage adaptations as to how literal they will be in their interpretation.  My hope is that they change it up a bit. I think we both might have been bored to tears if we were able to anticipate every moment.

However, Disney's Frozen The Musical did not disappoint.  From the moment the curtain opened we were introduced to a diverse cast that activated our imaginations far more than the homogeneous animated characters. We were surprised by new songs and character roles, and we were brought to the edge of our seats with the creative ways in which Elsa’s magic was made real.  While I would never have guessed it possible, when the show-stopping “Let It Go” was performed, I got chills, just as I had the first time I heard it. Between the gorgeous set designs and costumes, clever humor, and innovative puppetry, I was thoroughly entertained, and I heard my son “oo” and “ah” throughout the performance. He loved it. My daughter, age 14, wasn’t able to join us, but my husband will be returning to the theater with her upon my recommendation.

This enchanting show is not to be missed. What a special way to introduce kids to the theater. Tiny girls arrived in their best dresses, (many of which were Elsa costumes), faux fur coats and stoles. My one tip might be to bring along a little pre-purchased souvenir to avoid the lines and added costs at the merchandise tables. Go to Broadway in Chicago for more information and tickets.
