In the past few years, it seems there has been an incredible increase in local lodging options on the Chicago Northside, and I couldn't be happier. We aren't from Chicago, and we have don't have a lot of extra space, so when family or friends come to visit, they typically stay in hotels. They also typically stay in the loop. I don't blame them, but it isn't incredibly convenient. With expensive parking fees, without in and out privileges, we find ourselves driving back and forth from the hotel to our home to spend time together. There are now properties all around the Northside that are just as nice as the loop hotels, many either within walking distance or with better and more affordable parking.
And local properties aren't just for out-of-towners. We had flooding a few years back, so we spent a month at the Best Western Plus Hawthorne Terrace in Lakeview East. It is just down the street for us, so though we were displaced, we did not feel much interruption in our lives as we still had the same commutes to school, work, activities.
Local lodging options are also great for staycations! Many properties offer really fun staycation packages. Parents can also have a little romantic getaway without being very far away at all. Locals can also take advantage of all the hotel bars, restaurants, and events.
I even read a Facebook post, recently, where someone said they wanted to come to Chicago for a weekend and "live like a local." What better way to do that than to stay in the center of one of our lively, diverse, neighborhoods.
